Cerebellum
CEREBELLUM lies on the brain stem, under and behind the cerebrum (below). (Reprinted from Scientific American, Aug 1958)
The cross section of the cerebellum (below) shows its tree-like pattern of folds and fissures, which led anatomists of the medieval period to give it the name of arbor vitae ("tree of life").
